Monday Oct. 29th, 2007

Addy and I spent most of the day together without mom. She had to go to Roswell to see the doctor. Addy slept in which was nice, I think she was taking it easy on me. When she woke up we went to the coffee house and had coffee, a breakfast burrito, and a muffin. She had all except the coffee. She even ate some green chillies which confirms she is a New Mexico baby. After that we returned for her her speech lesson. She took awhile toopen up with her teacher and decided she needed her dogs around just-in-case this woman was not ok. If the dogs tried to leave the room she freaked out. After that we went to Sonic for lunch with the neighbor's 4.5 yr old. He entertains Addy so much I should be paying his parents for him to come over.

On the training side it was a day off for me. Went for a lazy walk around the neighbor hood with our gimp dog Sydney.

I've been exploring iphone hack sites because I'm planning on getting one soon. This appears to be a reasonably well laid out tutorial on the process for the latest firmware.

Chariot strollers

So the chariot stroller is the salvation of fathers... and mother who thought their running days were over upon arrival of their bundles of joy. The chariot provides me the time to go running guilt free by taking Addy off the hands of her wonderful mother Rika.

Don't buy any other jogger/trailer on the market. None come close to the Chariot in terms of comfort or safety. Anyone have a used double they want to sell?

Addy went through a period recently where the chariot was not a welcome sight. She has since made peice and all is well again. In the picture below she was just worried since she could see Dad and was on a hill. "who's driving!"

Addy's Pumpkin Party

Today we hosted a pumpkin carving party. Addy was not so into the carving, but was very into Andrew, the neighbor kid, he's the one dressed as spider man. I'm sure if Addy could string words together she'd want to thank all her friends for coming. On a happy note we think Mike and Lauren are great with kids and need to get started making some. Addy 16 months old.

Addy is cruising around like crazy now. She is also developing a great sense of humor.

She has no problem finding touble in the house and outside. Today I told her to help me get the mail out of my car. She went out to the driveway with me and walked across the street while I was getting the mail out of the car. She was going to our mail box.

Daily run: Marathon Training day 1

My run today was 4.28 miles on the streets around our house. The course was relatively flat. The pace was a comfortable 9 min/mile. It was a late run well after dark at 9pm.

I'm in the period that most training "experts" call mileage buildup. I'm trying to really train right this time around to avoid injury and effect a healthy change in my metabolism.

Tufts Marathon Challenge

I've enrolled in the Tufts Marathon Challenge to get my butt back into shape.

I'll be running the Boston April 2008.

I am thrilled about this personal challenge, and even more excited about the opportunity to help over 200 other men and women (including several women from my greater StrongWomen community) train and run the race as part of the “President’s Marathon Challenge.” We were lucky enough to be given numbers for the Boston Marathon to use for fundraising purposes here at Tufts. The goal of the challenge is to raise awareness about important health and nutrition programs at Tufts and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy (where my center is housed). In particular, the support generated by the challenge will help underwrite nutrition research and training, including exceptional educational outreach programs to combat obesity and inactivity among elementary school children as well my own StrongWomen programs that we are currently implementing throughout the nation and abroad.

I would be thrilled if you would consider supporting my number. Without support from people like you, we simply could not do our good work. Every donation counts! Each training run and all throughout the race I will draw strength from the goodwill I have received from my many supporters around the world.
Thank you for considering to support my running of the 109th Boston Marathon.
Warmest Regards, Nate

Addy gets older and walks

As the world turns I guess our little bear has to grow up. She has started walking. She was taking a few steps before I had to make a brief trip to Canada. When I got back I witnessed her walking for some distance at a time. She is like a novice roller skater. She can't stop without 1) Falling down, 2)holding on to something.

Video at 10!

She understands way more then we realize. Today I asked her where her room was and she just pointed to our room rather then our own. I think that was a conscious mistake since she has wanted to sleep with us lately since she's had a cold.

Addy is learning so much now.
